Welcome to my dyepot!

Welcome to my new blog. I'm a fiber fanatic & love to dye wool yarns, fleeces, & fabrics with natural dyes. I've learned so much reading other blogs & thought I'd begin recording some of my successes & failures so that others might learn as well.

In the past few months I've dyed about 18 pounds of wool yarn using dyestuff that I've harvested primarily from my own farm. Other dye sources have been mushrooms friends have found & shared with me & weeds from the roadsides.

I live in Kentucky's Bluegrass region along the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. I've always believed KY was beautiful, but after I began reading & learning about natural dyeing, my perception of my home place changed. Everywhere I look now, I see potential dyes!! I'm like a child with a brand new 64 piece box of Crayolas - all that beauty & all that potential to create something magical.

I love lots of different ways to use color - knitting, crocheting, sewing, spinning, weaving, soapmaking, painting, gardening. I hope to share a bit of all of this in this blog, however, my main focus will be dyeing.
